KALLER product range to be extended with Swiss gas hydraulic technology for heavy duty off-road vehiclesRSS

Nitrogen Gas Products (NGP), a business of Barnes Group Inc., has announced the September 2011 acquisition of the gas hydraulic suspensions assets, commonly known in the industry as “Hydrop,” from Swiss-based Curtiss-Wright Antriebstechnik (CWAT), part of the Curtiss-Wright Corporation. These assets include product lines with advanced suspension solutions primarily for defense applications. The products will be integrated into NGP’s operations in Strömsholmen AB, of Tranås, Sweden over the next few months. The suspension systems will be sold under the brand name KALLER.

Swiss acquisition by Sweden-based Strömsholmen AB an important step in profitable growth strategy

“This acquisition complements our existing KALLER product offerings and represents an important step in our profitable growth strategy,” comments Johan Runesson, Vice President NGP and Managing Director of Strömsholmen AB. “The global demand for more complex, highly technical suspension systems is expected to grow substantially in the future, and we are excited about adding these capabilities to our portfolio.”

About Strömsholmen and KALLER
As a member of the U.S. based Barnes Group Inc., Strömsholmen is a global leader in the field of gas spring technologies, exporting approximately 95 percent of its products. Strömsholmen was  founded in 1876 in Tranås, Sweden and has been headquartered there since. Strömsholmen employs approximately 250 employees in Tranås.

Introduced in 1983, the KALLER gas spring technology developed, manufactured and marketed by Strömsholmen, quickly led to world-wide demand. “Our main focus is still on gas springs for use in different tool and die applications, but with the Swiss acquisition we are taking a big step forward with regard to suspension to heavy off-road vehicles,” said Runesson.

Leading up to the acquisition of the gas hydraulic suspension technology, Strömsholmen had already received an order to provide suspension systems  for the Swedish military wheeled combat vehicles. The advanced Strömsholmen technology will continue to be sold to both commercial and military markets. Said Runesson, “Our gas hydraulic suspension is a key component for heavy duty off-road vehicles’ accessibility and comfort. We look to the future with confidence.”
